What Is Radon?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that moves up through the ground to the air above and into homes or businesses through cracks or holes in the basement walls and floors. It can also dissolve into our water supply. Radon is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Much of New York State has elevated levels of radon due to high amounts of granite bedrock.
What Are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)?:
VOC's are found in many household products, including: paints; wood preservatives; aerosol sprays; cleansers & disinfectants; air fresheners; automotive products and much more. VOC's vary in their potential to affect health.
Health Risks & Hazards:
Exposure to Radon Gas and VOC's can lead to serious health problems including:
Irritation of eyes, nose and throat
Damage to the liver, kidneys and central nervous system
Increased risk of a respiratory disease, such as asthma & allergies
Dizziness & nausea
